A8 Interlaken-Ost – Brienz: Passable on one lane per direction
The A8 between Interlaken-Ost and Brienz is passable on one lane per direction during the winter.
The complete renovation of the A8 between Interlaken-Ost and Brienz is in full swing. Most of the work takes place at night. The construction site is set up every evening and cleared early in the morning so that the A8 is open to traffic again during the day. An additional work zone with construction during the day was installed between the Chüebalm and the Giessbach tunnel. There, traffic was be reduced to one lane.
This zone will be removed for the winter. From Wednesday, 20 November 2024, the A8 between Interlaken-Ost and Brienz will be passable on one lane per direction again.
Night closures
From 2021 to 2025, the A8 between Interlaken-Ost and Brienz is being completely renewed, including the tunnels Sengg, Chüebalm and Giessbach. To execute the work, the A8 is closed during the week as follows, depending on the season:
- October to Mai: in the nights Mon/Tue to Fri/Sat from 8 p.m to 6 a.m.
- June and September: in the nights Mon/Tue to Thu/Fri from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., in the night Fri/Sat from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- July and August: in the nights Mon/Tue to Fri/Sat from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Traffic between Interlaken and Brienz will be diverted onto the cantonal road on the right-hand side of the lake. The communal road will be available for traffic between Interlaken and Iseltwald.
